A Few Words from my clients
I’ve been working with Dr. Lingen for several years now. I’ve stayed with him for so long because he is a warm, empathic therapist who makes me feel safe no matter what I bring into the room during session. He has a very calm nature, and a soothing voice, and he has a knack for putting me at ease when my emotions run high in session.

I appreciate that Dr. Scott is an older therapist with many years of life experience that allows him to relate to what I’m going through in my later years. Not that I have anything against young therapists, but there’s no way they can relate to the challenges of getting older when they’ve never experienced those challenges themselves. When I went on his website and saw all that gray hair in his beard, I thought, now that’s someone who will be able to personally relate to what I’m talking about. I’m so glad I found him.

I couldn’t believe I found a shrink who spent over 20 years in the corporate jungle before he decided to become a therapist. Who does that? When I talk about the madness going on all around me at work, politics, sadistic managers, turf wars, Scott smiles because he knows exactly what I am talking about because he lived through it himself. That makes a BIG difference to me. He’s able to offer a lot of helpful, practical advice for me when I feel like I’m going to completely lose my mind at work.

I sought out Dr. Scott because he came highly recommended as a hypnotherapist and I wanted to give that a try as nothing else had really been working for me. I was reluctant because of some of the weird things you hear about being hypnotized, but Dr. Scott did a great job of explaining to me what clinical hypnosis is and what it is not, and what I could expect if I were to give it a try. For me, the results were nothing short of amazing. Even though I never did go into a “deep trance,” hypnosis allowed me to achieve a level of focus on my issues and where they came from that I’ve never experienced before in any past therapy. If you’re on the fence about hypnosis, you should at least explore the possibility as it really helped me a lot.

I really like the fact that Scott is willing to share some of his own life experiences if he thinks it will be helpful to me – and it has been, believe me. You can tell that a lot of what Scott has to offer didn’t come from any textbook. He’s been through some nasty stuff in his own life, and I think it helps him relate to me better than someone who hasn’t. Scott is the real deal, for sure.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, my oncologist strongly encouraged me to get into therapy, and it wasn’t a tough sell. I picked Dr. Scott because I liked his introduction video. Imagine how shocked I was when I told him my reason for starting therapy was that I was just diagnosed with cancer and he told me he knew a little bit about that because he is a cancer survivor. I’ve always been religious but when that happened I really felt like someone from above was looking out for me, pairing me up with Dr. Scott. He’s an amazing man.

I’ve been with Dr. Scott, on and off, for about five years now. What I like about him is that on the one hand, I never feel as though he is judging me for whatever I’m presenting, and on the other hand, if he has a tough message that he thinks I need to hear, he will tell me, and I value that a lot. I’ve had therapists before who are great at validating my feelings, but that doesn’t help me get better. Dr. Scott gives me both.

What I value most about Scott is his multifaceted approach to therapy. When I need concrete coping skills he gives them to me, and when I need a deeper, more insight-oriented approach, he can provide me with that as well. I appreciate his flexibility in his therapeutic methods, finding something that will work for ME, not just shoving his favorite type of therapy down my throat whether it works for me or not like other therapists have done.

When I retired from my career, I thought every day was going to be a wonderful exercise in relaxation. Several months after retirement, I found myself feeling adrift and without purpose and symptoms of depression started to set in. Working with Scott, who retired from his corporate career several years ago and had a similar experience to mine, was invaluable in helping me set a course and direction in my life that has really worked out well for me.

If you’re like me, you probably waited way too long to get into therapy to address your issues. I was hesitant to do so, and if I hadn’t had therapy covered 100% by my employer I probably wouldn't have done it. A few weeks after I started with Scott, I was surprised at how I was making progress in getting my emotions under control and getting back to the person I was before I let anxiety run rampant through my life. Scott did a great job of getting me back on track and I still go in periodically for a “tune up” if I feel like I’m getting off course in managing my emotions.

I was born and raised in another country and moved to the United States as an adult. What I appreciate most about Dr. Lingen is that he has a deep seeded appreciation for culture and how it impacts on my experience living in an environment that is very different from how I was raised. Dr. Lingen helped me sort through all the tension in my head as I tried to navigate my way through getting adjusted to living where I am today.
